EQOnz Ltd is a small, established New Zealand civil engineering consultancy. We are now entering a staged succession phase — with a focus on building long-term capability and continuity for our clients and the business.

This isn't a recruitment exercise for a conventional employee. We are interested in hearing from engineers who want broad experience, increasing responsibility, and a genuine pathway toward leadership and future ownership.

The transition would be fully supported. The intention is to provide oversight, mentoring, and continuity through the transition years — likely over a period of 2 to 5 years, or until the right person is fully established in the role.

We recognise that genuine succession takes years, not months. The structure is designed to work for both sides: the incoming engineer builds knowledge and confidence, while our clients maintain continuity and trust.

The pathway, step by step

Year 1
Join and learn
Work alongside the current director on live projects. Build familiarity with clients, systems, and the business. Begin taking ownership of selected projects under guidance.
Years 1–3
Grow your role
Take on increasing responsibility across the project portfolio. Develop client relationships directly. Contribute to business development and technical direction.
Years 2–5
Lead the business
Transition toward primary leadership of the consultancy. The current director steps back over time to a mentoring and advisory role, providing continuity and oversight.
Long-term
Ownership pathway
For the right person, a genuine pathway toward equity and eventual ownership of EQOnz Ltd — a rare opportunity in the New Zealand consulting market.

What makes this different

Most engineering roles offer a defined scope, a desk, and an annual review. This is different.

You would be joining a small, trusted consultancy with established clients and a track record — and taking on an increasingly central role in shaping where it goes.

The current director will be present and available throughout the transition period. This is not a handover without support. It's a deliberate, careful transition with the right person at the centre of it.
